Trip Down Under : Part I

Hello there!

This be the continuation post of my hunt for carob ... which took the Chief and I to Kuala Lumpur (Snoopy insist I spell the places correctly instead of spelling 'em the way I think it sonds!) then to Perth, Australia.

TOP DOG in Perth City

I regret to report that we didn't find any carob - mainly because we simply didn't know where to look! The major departmental stores in Australia sold quite a wide range of dog accessories but not so much dog treats. They were however deliciously stocked with nice human food and desert.

Admiring the delicious food ...(my favourite shot of Perth)

Was I lucky enough to get a taste of Australian Human food? Yes! But not as much as I liked though! The Chief said something about it being too salty and my skin will itch and my fur will fall out ! Honestly, although I have loads of respect for the Chief but really her ideas can sometimes be doggedly strange!

We didn't even find any Pet Stores in Perth mainly because we were hanging out down town the banking district rather than the suburbs. The Chief made sure we took the scenic route down the esplanade and the river (on foot of course) since she knew I won't be very interested in the banks and offices.

The Esplanade - the scenic river walk

They had this gigantic wheel like contraption along the Esplanade which the humans take a ride in. Am not sure why they bother since they would end up the spot they started!
But strange as it is (to any canine), it's a very popular human ride. They also have one in the Lion City(Singapore), Kuala Lumpur ... even London!
Apart from the wonderful sights, sounds and smells which are so different from Dog Woods and Cat City, there were also some very interesting things that were either inspiring awe (in a scary kind of way) or required a curious closer sniff ...

We came across these strange looking creatures - that looked like big hopping rats or gigantic squirrels . With no Dog Woods Pack to back this TOP DOG up, I was really quite frightened by what I saw until the Chief said they were only bronze statues. Nothing to be afraid of. Apparently Australia's teeming with these creatures and they are called 'Kanga-roos!' Honestly, I really won't want to meet a real hopping rat/gigantic squirrel alone!

Kangaroo stare ...

This Golden Lady which I thought was another rather nice looking statue until the Chief tossed a coin in her metal pail ... in which she actually moved and curtsied! I was caninely amazed. Promising the Chief I won't leave her a pee-mail as souvenir of my Dog Woods TOP DOG curiousity, I went to have a closer inspection ...

Am really glad they made this one move and not the Kangaroos!

Say Cheese!

The Chief later told me that the Golden Lady was actually a human pretending to be a statue! Wasn't she clever?

As we strolled further along Hay Street (one of the major shopping streets of Perth) we came across this upside-down man whom I liked immediately and thought I'd make friends with but the Chief said was only another bronze statue!

'Hello there upside down man! I be upside-down Basset, TOP DOG of Dog Woods'

This canine was really confused for a while. How can the Chief tell what be a statue and what be a human pretending to be a statue? They both smell the same ... :P

I suppose some things are simply not for canines to figure out!

Stay tuned for my next post on my trip to Perth!

Bye

  2. Wow - that's quite a vacation.....I'm curious as to why you don't just hit a health food store for the Carob - they have tons of it! Just curious!

  3. Ohh, now it didn't occur to us that we could find carob in the health food store! Since we've NEVER seen carob in its raw form. The Chief's only read about carob, bought carob cookies but never seen carob. Thanks for the tip Checkers! Next time we'd head straight for the next health food store!

  4. It seems like your trip was a lot of fun. I'm not allowed in my health food store because I'm a dawg. Therefore, health food stores are no fun.

  7. Your trip looks like it was pawsitively pawsome!!! We love those statues but if they started moving, that would really freak us out. The upside down man gave my mom the giggles, especially when you went upside down too.

Hey, our Mom makes us some delicious biscotti with carob drizzled on top; we call it wooscotti. She can only find the carob, as chips, in the health food store.
